MONDAY FIRE UPDATE (July 27)--It is being reported that the Blue Creek fire located outside of Walla Walla is 73 percent contained and that the crews have made great headway on the fire. The fire line is approximately one mile from the Walla Walla watershed, and the team feels very good about that line. This amount of containment has allowed the U.S. Forest Service to lift the road closures around Bluewood.
Although the fire crews have made great strides, we are all not out of danger yet. The weather forecast for later in the week calls for temperatures to rise back up around the 100-degree mark by Thursday. This hot, dry weather will challenge the crews.
We want to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone fighting the fire and all of the agencies involved currently and from the onset of this event. Without your great commitment, professionalism and TEAMWORK, this fire could have had an even longer effect on all of us.
We at Bluewood ask that everyone please be careful and watchful for the remainder of the summer fire season. If camping up in the woods is in your plans, please check with your local Ranger District, State Parks or other responsible agencies before lighting that evening campfire, and when done make sure it is completely out.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families who have been displaced or lost their homes to the fire. Please keep all of the fire crews in your thoughts for their safety.
We will keep you posted if conditions change. For current updates on the fire, please go to your local media outlets for the latest news.

June 12, 2015--A Walla Walla Blue Mountain Archers shoot will be held at Bluewood the weekend of June 20 and 21. On-site registration begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 19. Camping and food will be available.
Archers of all ages will have two flagged courses to follow, each course starting at the summit, which is served by the Skyline Express lift. One course follows the Country Road trail; the other follows the Tamarack trail [map]. Each course features 40 Rinehart 3-D targets. A free practice range (no registration required) will also be available in the Platter Pull area near the lodge.
"This will be a fun-filled family weekend," says Todd Randall, vice president of the Blue Mountain Archers. "With lift service, you can ride up the mountain and shoot your way down."
The event is open to people of all ages and also to observers. For safety, children 16 and younger must be supervised by an adult. Pets must be kept on leashes at all times.
For more information, including registration fees, visit the Blue Mountain Archers website. Lift service is $8 per person for the weekend.
"We're excited to host this great family event," says Kim Clark, general manager of Bluewood.
The shoot is presented by the Walla Walla Blue Mountain Archers in partnership with Ranch & Home and Bluewood.
April 21, 2015--Bluewood last week submitted a proposal to the U.S. Forest Service to install a limited snowmaking system around the base area.
The system as proposed would cover from the bottom of the Triple Nickel Bowl down to the lodge and up the Platter Pull area. It would help cover the lower mountain only. In a year like this past winter, this system would've allowed us to open by mid-December and stay open until the end of March.
We hope to have the system installed and operational by Thanksgiving if everything goes as planned.
The Bluewood ownership group is committed to keeping our hometown ski area viable, and this is just another example of their long-term commitment.
Stay tuned for further updates as the process moves forward.
